Already a month, I have been interesting in CAD software, AutoCAD for Mac, of course, because I do run-based Mac computers. At first I was keen to draw a drill bit with CorelDraw X4 and some of forms of 3-D drilling equipment and oil drilling rigs. All the equipment I can easily see at work sites for real examples. Turns draw 3D objects with regular drawing program like CorelDraw is not easy and many have limitations. 3D objects should be drawn with a special drawing software i.e CAD (Computer Aid Design). Previously I had tried to draw my house building plans with ArchiCAD six months ago, but I did not continue to learn this software, because of busy work and I am more interested in drawing with AutoCAD is much more freedom in drawing a 3D object.
Running AutoCAD software is not easy; especially for who does not understand the “engineering” and computer basics. Definition of “coordinate”, “Surface”, “Solid”, “Quadrant”, “Axis”, etc. – it needs to be understood before entry and start running the program. Although I slightly understand the terms and the things mentioned above, still takes tremendous patience and perseverance in starting to try this software.
Because I love the process of learning myself, then I try to start by drawing something, which is 3 Dimension drilling rig …! And this is too much – like an obsession. Apparently this move was my first mistake, because drawing a drilling rig is very complex and certainly not easy for me who are beginners. Even so, I had completed the general of that picture with the patience that is almost broken. While studying there, and tutorials from the internet; hence gradually realized the error and shortcomings. I also noted all the new things I get a new one, although it looks like a simple thing.
Many of the tutors and experts in the CAD is always exemplifies simple image; most of them give the picture an example of a DOOR. The first time, I am not at all interested in drawing this door and I always miss to read and pay attention to this … Turns give a simple example is the first step to provide a basic understanding of how to draw 3D with CAD software. I realized after a few times slow in understanding the coordinate system and the point of view of the object. Then I tried to draw a door as recommended by the most of tutor. Finally I realized that before you can draw 3 dimensions, we should be able to draw 2D and understand how to draw it, good size and how to build objects. Suppose: a door consists of door handles and handle, of course, must be understood also the size and location of the coordinates of the door.
I finally realized, the doors image examples is the best example I can understand to generate a “goal” in drawing 3D objects. Basic components such as plate door, handle hand is small and the pictures can be used repeatedly is commonly called the “Block” in AutoCAD. A complex 3-Dimesion drawing may consist of several “Block”, maybe dozens, maybe even tens of “Block” …! Imagine if the image of a sports stadium, or Bus Terminal, Railway, Airport, then how many seats the audience, passengers should be drawn repeatedly if no “Block”?
Drawing the components of a 3-D image requires precision and persistence. I even draw these components can be one to two days, the next I save it as “Block”, so that I could use for the main images in future. I tried the usual drawing and using the coordinates, its purpose so accurate. One another obstacle for me is, try to understand the complex forms, both the size and the location of the object. It is consuming my time before starting to draw a 2D field first.
The program is equipped with features of small program, called AutoLISP. It is a small programming language that can be created by the user to speed up and simplify the running AutoCAD. Many CAD users advanced AutoLISP say how effective it is. I’d love to be able to learn this AutoLISP, but for now, I am still struggling with the depiction of 2D and 3D are still fundamental. For some time to come, I have to finish “project” that I personally draw the 3-Dimension of Drilling Land Rig, while studying the process of the AutoCAD software.
